Making my website

When starting to create my website we were told about word press first, which is why I decided to start using that platform. The problem I had with word press was that every time I tried to look for a template which I liked, I had problems because they were over complicated in there design, which was not what I was looking for because our teacher told us that we should find something very simplistic which would not make the viewer (the person viewing the website) to have to look for the work and be confused by different things. So basically my aim was to find something very straight forward.

When looking at the templates on Word Press the best one I found was called, "Janice".
Even though the template had a blog like feel, I felt liked that it worked well because it gave that simplistic feel that I wanted to portray to make it easy for the viewer to see my work as soon as they get on the website.

(Screenshot of Janice template below)

Working on template with different colours and putting work on.

As you can see when you go on the website the first thing you would see is my work, and then you would have to scroll down to see all the other categories

I wanted to keep this black version. But the problem I had with Word Press was that it did not give me control of many things such as removing the search bar when I didn't need to have one.

The font I decided to use was Merriweather, because I liked the aesthetic feel from it and felt like it flowed well with my designs.

This is why I decided to use Square Space which is another website builder which I felt was a lot easier to use and had a lot more freedom in what I can control and delete.

As you can see below I decided to put a quote as part of the homepage to give it more of a professional and friendly feel, which also gave them an insight of what I liked.

As you can see the quote below says, "I am a graphic designer who is mostly interested in print design" But I then decided that was not the right way to put it and changed it to, "I am a graphic designer who is passionate about graphic designer". As you can see from the screenshot below.

I know it is not clear in the screenshots below but I then started to work with the fonts and decided to make the headings more bold.

I also decided to move all the headings to the left because it gave it more of a professional feel.

I also decided to have an about page and a contact page where people would be able to contact me.

As you can see below I made the home page show all 3 of the projects I had in a thumbnail to show the categories easier so people can just click on the project they want to see.

If you look at the images I have put up you can also see that the pictures are not fully showing in the boxes. The reason I decided to keep it like that is because I feel like it makes you want to click on the project to see what the whole image is and it kind of leads you in to want to make you want to see more.

When you click on the project you want to see, it will take you on a page where you would see the work for the project and the info.

Aligning things the way I want it not creating to much white space so it feels to empty.

I also added features where when you hover over something with the mouse it will go grey which makes the website more interactive in my opinion and also gives it more of a aesthetically pleasing feel.

Also a reason I did not put a CV on my website is because I feel if someone wanted one they should just contact me on the contact page and ask for it. Also because of privacy reasons.

Overall when doing this I considered measurements, fonts, sizes colours and so on.
I feel like my website is very easy to use and is also very aesthetically pleasing.
